The Boryspil international airport handled 8.65 million passengers in 2016, an all-time record for the airport.

According to the airport, the number of passengers it handled increased by 18.8%or 1.37 million in 2016, compared with 2015.

This increase was achieved primarily thanks to transit passengers. The number of transit passengers handled by the airport increased by 0.76 million or 49% to 2.31 million during the year.

The airport contributed UAH 1.55 billion to the state budget last year.

Boryspil is Ukraine’s main airport, accounting for 65% of the total volume of air passenger transportation in the country. It is the only airport that handles transcontinental flights in Ukraine.

Passenger traffic through the airport exceeded 8 million (8,029,000) for the first time in 2011, when passenger traffic increased by 20% compared with the previous year. The Boryspil airport handled 8,478,000 passengers (a 5.6% increase) the following year, when Ukraine co-hosted the 2012 European football championship. The volume of passenger traffic through the airport fell after that.
