Representatives of a group of major Italian construction companies have expressed their companies’ intention to participate in road construction projects in Ukraine and enter the Ukrainian market in the near future.

Ukraine’s Honorary Consul in Italy Marco Toson announced this during a meeting with the management of the Ukrdorinvest state enterprise, the CFTS reports, citing information provided by Ukrdorinvest.

The honorary consul did not name the companies, but he assured that they are the five largest Italian companies engaging in road construction.

"Italy wants to restore confidence in its companies, which reduced significantly after the unfortunate incident involving non-fulfillment of contractual obligations by an Italian company in Ukraine," Toson said.

At the same time, Ukrdorinvest’s Director Olena Kryvoruchko said that Italian companies were not reducing interest in participation in infrastructure projects in Ukraine. "This is a very positive thing. We hope that such cooperation will be mutually beneficial to both sides," Kryvoruchko said.

As reported, the contract with the Italian contractor Todini Costruzioni Generali SpA was recently terminated because of a large number of defects and serious mistakes during repair of a section of the M-03 highway between Kyiv and Poltava.
