The Ministry of Infrastructure believes that it is necessary to regulate the operations of online taxi booking services such as Uber, Taxify, and Uklon, Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelian said in an interview with the Interfax Ukraine news agency.

"We are resolving the issues of new types of taxi services, internet taxis operating in Ukraine such as Uklon, Uber, Taxify, as well as new ones, in order to bring them into the legal framework and avoid speculation," said the minister.

In general, according to Omelian, the Ministry of Infrastructure intends to liberalize the taxi service industry in Ukraine as much as possible and simplify the licensing procedures for taxi drivers. "They can be of two types - national or local. Their cost will be absolutely minimal. We want all carriers to use legal taxi marks," the minister said.

He added that passengers would benefits because a civilized taxi market would increase transport security and comfort, as well as the responsibility of taxi services for their drivers.

A legal taxi market practically does not exist in In Ukraine. The Ministry of Infrastructure estimates that only 10% of taxi drivers operate within the legal framework.
