The Poltava ore mining and processing plant (Komsomolsk, Poltava region), which is controlled by British-based Ferrexpo Plc, exported 2.25 million tons of iron-ore pellets to Europe and the Middle East as well as to Japan and China in the period of January-February this year, maintaining its position as the largest producer and exporter of this product in the CIS.

According to a press release that the company issued on Thursday, the relevant data was published by the Ukrpromzovnishekspertyza state enterprise.

According to the data, in the first two months of this year, Karelsky Okatysh (Russia) exported 627,000 tons of pellets, the Mikhailovsky ore mining and processing plant (Russia) 254,000 tons, the Severny ore mining and processing plant (Ukraine) 246,000 tons, and the Central ore mining and processing plant (Ukraine ) 237,000 tons.

Production of iron-ore pellets at ore mining enterprises in January-February 2016 totaled 1.870 million tons at the Poltava ore mining and processing plant 1.855 million tons at Karelsky Okatysh 1.630 million tons at the Mikhailovsky ore mining and processing plant, 1.585 million tons at the Severny ore mining and processing plant, and 1.129 million tons at the Kachkanar ore mining and processing plant (Ukraine).

The Poltava ore mining and processing plant is the main asset of London Stock Exchange-listed mining company Ferrexpo Plc: it owns 100% of the shares in Ferrexpo AG, which, in turn, owns a 97.34% stake in the Poltava ore mining and processing plant, a 100% in the Yeristov ore mining and processing plant, and a 99.9% stake in the Belanovsky ore mining and processing plant.

Ferrexpo is a Swiss-based iron-ore producer with assets in Ukraine. Production and export of high-quality iron-ore pellets used in steel production is the core operation of the company. 

The Ferrexpo Group is the largest producer and exporter of iron-ore pellets in the CIS.

The company produced 11.67 million tons of iron-ore pellets in 2015, which is 5.6% more than it produced in 2014. Its main customers are steel mills in Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, and other European countries, as well as in China, India, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea.
