The number of ferries handled at the Chornomorsk seaport has increased since 3 November, thanks to early completion of repair work at the berth No. 27 of the port’s ferry complex.

All the three berths in the complex are now in operation, the CFTS portal reports, citing information from the Chornomorsk seaport.

During the period of the repairs, ferry loading and unloading operations were performed at the berths Nos. 26 and 28. Following the resumption of operation of the berth No. 27, 9 vessels were processed at the ferry terminal from 3 to 7 November alone, including two at repaired berth. These were the "Heroes of Odesa" and "Heroes of Sevastopol" ferries.

The work was performed within a short time because of the need to avoid changing the schedule for ship calls, as well as because of the possible onset of cold weather, the seaport said.

As the CFTS earlier reported, the volume of transportation by railway ferries between the ports of Chornomorsk, Varna, and Batumi was 142,200 tons in the first seven months of 2016, which is 12.51% more than the volume in the corresponding period of 2015.

It was announced in October that the Ukrferry company was moving its automobile ferry service from the Chornomorsk seaport to the Illichivsk fishing port. The Ukrferry company’s Commercial Director Volodymyr Chernievskyi said that the decision to change seaports was "a largely forced measure." According to him, in recent years, Ukrferry has constantly encountered situations in which Chornomorsk seaport is unable to receive and process ferries on schedule at a time when cargo traffic has increased significantly. Moreover, the situation was aggravated by the shutdown of one of the ferry complex’s berths for repairs.
