State enterprise "Sea Commercial Port Yuzhny" has loaded up to full draft one of the largest bulkers in its history – Pink Sands, which runs under the flag of Malta.

The port workers loaded 201,922 tons of iron ore concentrate onto the capesize ship in 3.5 days. It is 1745 tons more than in March 2017 when the newcastlemax ship Rangiroa was loaded. Daily loading rate amounted to 57,692 tons. The cargo will be forwarded to China.

The leadership of Sea Commercial Port Yuzhny considers that increase of the ship loading volume is able due to the reconstruction of the approach channel and inland water approaches to the deep water berths No. 5 and No. 6 of the enterprise. It makes possible to handle vessels with a draft up to 18.5 meters.

"As of May 1, 2017, the cargo turnover of the SE "Sea Commercial Port Yuzhny" amounted to 4.349 million tons. Today the company prepares to receive import coal for Ukrainian thermal power stations. Recently, the Ministry of Infrastructure set the task to us and to Chornomorsk seaport to get ready for transshipment of about 4.8 million tons of coal by the end of the year. We intend to modernize our own capacities: to buy portal cranes, to develop transport railway communication at the enterprise, to build a new electrical substation," Vitaly Zhukovsky, acting director of SE "Sea Commercial Port Yuzhny", said.

It is worth to note that the largest ship was loaded on Sea Commercial Port Yuzhny in 2015. It was Mineral Edo, newcastlemax vessel, which took on board 203.59 thousand tons of cargo.
