The parliament has adopted a draft law on reform of the system of management of public roads. The second reading of the draft law No. 0954 was approved by 248 votes, with only 226 votes needed to approve it.

"State roads will remain under government and Ukravtodor control and local roads will be managed and repaired by local self-government agencies, using funds provided in the form of subventions," Yaroslav Dubnevych, the head of the parliament’s transport committee, said during the presentation of the draft law.

In addition, he said that local authorities would be able to conclude road maintenance contracts for periods of up to seven years.

This law will come into force on 1 January 2018, together with the Law on the Road Fund, which was adopted on Thursday.
