The Ukrzaliznytsia public railway company is holding talks on establishment of a common tariff with Polish railway operators with the aim of launching a container train between Black Sea ports and Baltic Sea ports. Ukrzaliznytsia board member Marek Zalesny announced this at a press conference in Odesa, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports.

According to Zalesny, there is a request to launch three container trains from Ukraine to the north of Poland. The company is currently holding talks with PKP LHS, a broad-gauge railway operator in Poland, on establishment of a common tariff for transportation of goods on such trains. According to Zalesny, these talks will be concluded within one month, after which the process of movement of trains from broad-gauge tracks (at the Sławków terminal near Katowice) to a port in northern Poland will be discussed.

The Ukrzaliznytsia public railway company also intends to discuss the launch of a container train with PKP Cargo, the largest railway carrier in Poland.

As reported, Ukrzaliznytsia’s head Wojciech Balczun met with the head of PKP LHS, Zbigniew Tracichleb, in July. The talks focused on organization of freight transportation from China to Poland through Ukraine.
