The Ukrainian Railways public joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) is considering extending the route of Kyiv-Lviv train No. 747/748 to Przemysl. In addition, the company intends to link Odesa with Dnipro and Lviv via a high-speed train and launch high-speed trains to Ivano-Frankivsk, Mykolaiv, and Kherson.

To expand its network of high-speed trains, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to purchase 13 new electric trains by the year 2025.

"Development of new routes and increase of traffic intensity on existing routes, which will be facilitated by interregional high-speed trains in the period until 2025, requires purchase of 13 additional electric trains," Ukrzaliznytsia told the Mind publication in response to an information request.

The company estimates the cost of purchasing these trains at USD 300-400 million based on the base price of a single electric in 2017. Ukrainian or foreign companies may manufacture the high-speed trains.

Ukrzaliznytsia announced in late April that it intended to purchase 11 electric trains by the year 2021, which would be used on the routes Kyiv-Kropyvnytskyi, Kyiv-Kryvyi Rih, Kyiv-Rivne-Lutsk, etc.
