The Ukrzaliznytsia public railway company plans to introduce a new scheme for purchase of diesel fuel. Diesel fuel will be purchased not in small volumes of 10,000-20,000 tons or less, but in larger volumes. The first such tender will involve purchase of 150,000 tons of diesel fuel. Ukrzaliznytsia’s Board Chairman Wojciech Balczun announced this during a roundtable at the Darnytskyi railcar repair plant, the CFTS correspondent reports.

The Production Support Center, which is the procurement branch of Ukrzaliznytsia, is developing a special formula for the tender for purchase of 150,000 tons of fuel, which will be presented later. The possible date of the tender has not yet been announced.

"We will organize a large tender for 150,000 tons. It will be the first tender of this kind (in terms of procurement volume). I hope that it will be successful. We will take a formula approach to this tender," said Balczun.

In addition, Ukrzaliznytsia intends to purchase 200,000 tons before the end of the year via nine tenders, which will be organized before 22 December.

Ukrzaliznytsia requires 300,000-350,000 tons of diesel fuel annually. Increasing the volume of purchases will reduce the number of tenders and simplify the supply procedure. Ukrzaliznytsia will also be able to obtain discounts when purchasing large volumes.

This is the practice in neighboring Poland, where railway companies purchase large quantities of fuel. The main competition for supply of full is between two major oil concerns – PKN Orlen and Grupa Lotus.
