The Vinnytsia city authorities and the management of the VBZ municipal transport company (Zurich, Switzerland) are discussing a prospective joint project involving transfer of a batch of used trams from Zurich to Vinnytsia. The trams may arrive in Ukraine in 2021. Vinnytsia’s Mayor Serhii Morhunov announced this on his Facebook page, the CFTS portal reports.

"I am talking about transfer of tramcars that are still operating here in Zurich and which the municipal transport company is planning to replace with the new rolling stock that VBZ will begin producing on demand from 2018. According to production plans and Zurich’s current public-transport needs, VBZ will be able to start the process of sending the tramcars in 2021. Our VTK public transport utility will also have to perform a huge amount of preparatory work by that time: strengthen and modernize electrical power equipment, prepare rail tracks, and adjust our city’s transport strategy," Morhunov said.

He noted that a memorandum on transfer of Swiss trams to Vinnytsia was signed more than a decade ago and that Vinnytsia has received more than 100 Zurich tramcars over several years. According to the Vinnytsia mayor, the Swiss are satisfied with the cooperation on this project.
