Trains carrying 23,000 tons of agricultural products from Ukraine have reached the Klaipeda seaport, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Rail Insider publication.

According to Kotryna Dzikaraite, a communication partner of Lithuanian Railways (LTG), there is an increase in requests for the transportation of agricultural products by the LTG Cargo Ukraine company.

"LTG Cargo Ukraine resumed its operations in Ukraine in June because of a significant increase in Ukrainian business customers’ demand for the transportation of grain and other cargoes from the country. So far, 17 trains carrying approximately 23,000 tons of agricultural products from Ukraine have reached the seaport of Klaipeda," she said.

Dzikaraite also said that the LTG Cargo company has begun transporting petroleum products intended for the Ukrainian market between the terminals of Mockava (Lithuania) and Trakiszki (Poland).

According to the representative of Lithuanian Railways, the first train carrying Lithuanian products departed for Ukraine from the Klaipeda seaport last week. The products are cardboards loaded into 14 30-foot containers. The train has already arrived in Ukraine. The range, volume, and geography of cargo transportation are expected to expand soon.

Dzikaraite believes that the biggest problem is the lack of locomotives and wagons needed for various railway lines. According to her, the route from Ukraine to Lithuania through Poland has its difficulties, but the company is actively addressing the difficulties.

"Under the current conditions, without attracting investments and taking additional measures to remove technical restrictions related to the Polish railway infrastructure, in particular, it is possible to operate one train carrying agricultural products from Ukraine through Poland to Lithuania per day; to Poland and onward to the port of Klaipeda. In annual terms, that would be approximately 500,000 tons," she said.
