Biriu Kroviniu Terminalas (BKT), one of the largest stevedore companies in the Klaipeda port, has offered Ukraine its capacity for the shipment of grain.

This was announced by Igor Udovickis, who controls 70% of BKT, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Interfax Ukraine news agency.

"If an appropriate agreement is reached between all interested parties, BKT could handle about 10 million tons of Ukrainian grain or about 1 million tons per month by the 2023 harvest," Udovickis said.

Belaruskaly, a Belarusian fertilizer producer, currently owns 30% of the shares in BKT while Udovickis owns 65% indirectly and 5% directly.

Udovickis recently applied to the Lithuanian Competition Council (antimonopoly agency) for permission to purchase 30% of BKT shares and gain sole control of the company.

The deal is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

As reported earlier, some batches of Ukrainian grain are already being exported through the port of Klaipeda.

Ukrainian oil is also transported through this Lithuanian port.
