The Russian occupation authorities have intensified preparations to increase the volume of resources and assets exported from the temporarily occupied territories in the Zaporizhia region. To this end, they have drafted a plan for large-scale modernization of the port in the captured Berdiansk.

The Berdiansk City Military Administration announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

"It is proposed to deepen the port of Berdiansk, lay a new railway line to the port, and modernize its infrastructure," a project proposal by the Russian Institute of Spatial Planning states. According to the Russian Ministry of Transport, the port had a capacity of 1.7 million tons in 2024, but the occupiers plan to increase it by more than 40% to more than 2.4 million tons by 2030.

This means that the occupiers are preparing to export more stolen grain, metals, industrial equipment, and other assets, thereby systematically looting the temporarily occupied territories.

Improved logistics and increased capacity at the port also create opportunities for more intensive military use, particularly for transporting equipment, ammunition, and personnel.
