In partnership with the Liski Transport Service Center, a branch of the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia), UZ Cargo Poland, a subsidiary of Ukrzaliznytsia, has performed a direct rail shipment of rolled steel sheets from the Port of Constanța to the Perechyn station in Zakarpattia, near the Slovakian border.

As the CFTS portal reported, citing UZ Cargo Poland, the freight was transported in 60-foot railway flatcars with wooden flooring. The flatcars were switched from 1520 mm broad-gauge bogies to 1435 mm standard-gauge bogies at the Constanța station.

According to UZ Cargo Poland, the use of these flatcars to transport the cargo significantly reduced the total transportation cost, since the cargo did not require transloading at the Romanian-Ukrainian border. This eliminated expenses associated with unfastening and refastening the cargo with new fasteners after transloading it onto flatcars.

In addition, changing bogies under loaded wagons takes only a few hours, which is much faster than wagon-to-wagon transshipment.

In August, it was reported that UZ Cargo Poland had completed its first delivery of petroleum products from Germany using its own rolling stock.
