The Chornomorsk seaport (former Illichivsk seaport) has presented a project by the Framshipping company, which says it can increase cargo transshipment at the port by 14 million tons per year. According to the port, Framshipping’s Deputy Director Dmytro Balzhik believes that it is possible to achieve such a volume of additional cargo traffic in 5-6 years.

The investor is seeking to lease the port’s warehouse No. 11 with the aim of building a universal cargo transshipment complex on its basis. The complex will include a grain elevator with a capacity of 5.5 million tons of grain per year, a facility for transshipment of vegetable oils (up to 2 million tons per year), a facility for stuffing containers (up to 500 containers per day), a complex for transshipment of break-bulk cargoes (cereals, flour), a facility for transshipment of general cargo (4.7 million tons per year with a view to reaching 6 million tons per year in the future), and a facility for transshipment of meal and cake.

According to Farmshipping, market forecasts indicate that export of grain from the port will shrink while exports of food products will increase.

The complex is expected to be completed in three years and the investment in it is expected to be recouped in eight years. The company is seeking to lease the facility for 49 years.

The port’s investment commission has decided to recommend the project for consideration by the Ministry of Infrastructure.

According to the first deputy head of the Odesa regional division of the State Property Fund, Serhii Husakov, there are already two candidates to lease the facility. Therefore, a competition will be held and the winner will be the candidate that offers the higher amount of lease. The processing of the relevant documents may take no more than four months, at best, the seaport said.
