The largest share of export cargoes transported by the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) in February 2024 was ore, followed by grain.

Valerii Tkachov, the deputy director of Ukrzaliznytsia’s Department of Commercial Operations, announced this during a regular meeting of Ukrzaliznytsia’s Export Office on 6 March.

Tkachov noted that Ukrzaliznytsia transported a total of 14.55 million tons of cargo (according to the latest data) in February this year. This is a record for the period since the beginning of the full-scale Russian military invasion.

In February, 7.76 million tons of export cargo were transported by rail (+3.6% compared with January 2024 and +53.0% compared with the same period in 2023).

"The reason for the significant increase in the volume of transportation of export cargoes is the efficient operation of the Ukrainian cargo export corridor through the ports of Greater Odesa," Tkachov said.

According to him, iron ore and manganese ore accounted for the largest shares of the volume of export cargoes transported by rail in February at 3.33 million tons (42.9% of the total volume of the export cargoes transported by rail), grain was second at 3.3 million tons (42.6%), and ferrous metals were third at 0.44 million tons (5%).

According to Tkachov, the 3.33 million tons of ore cargo that Ukrzaliznytsia transported for export is a record for this type of cargo in the period since the outbreak of full-scale war and is almost equal to the monthly volume transported before the war.
