Operators working in the Pivdennyi seaport handled over 49.2 million tons of cargo from the beginning of this year to December 4. This is an all-time record for the seaport, which has been in operation for 41 years.

The Ukrainian Seaports Authority announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

The previous record of 48,582,000 tons was set in the full 12 months of 2015, when the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) ranked the Pivdennyi seaport as the 91st largest port in the world in terms of total cargo turnover.

As reported earlier, the state stevedoring company at the Pivdennyi seaport has handled 13.7 million tons of cargo since the beginning of this year, exceeding its transshipment target by 32%. The state stevedoring company at the Pivdennyi seaport handled 1.320 million tons of cargo in November, exceeding its target by 320,000 tons or 32% and its cargo-handling volume in the same period of 2018 by 12%.

As reported earlier, the TIS terminal group’s cargo turnover from the beginning of this year to December 5 exceeded 30 million tons. This is an all-time record for TIS.

Founded in 1978, the Pivdennyi seaport is the deepest port in Ukraine. Traditionally, it is the leading Ukrainian seaport in terms of cargo turnover.

The Pivdennyi seaport has a berthing line of 5.9 kilometers (30 berths) and a maximum depth of up to 19 meters. The main origins/destinations of cargoes to/from the seaport are countries in the Black Sea and Mediterranean basins, South America, the United States, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

Operators in the Pivdennyi seaport handled 43.9 million tons of cargo in period of January-October 2019, a 28.3% increase compared with the corresponding period of 2018.
