The volume of grain handling in seaports in the first half of 2016 increased by 6.8% to 16.220 million tons, compared with the corresponding period of last year. Corn accounted for 25.6% of the total volume of cargo handled in seaports, according to operational statistics from the Ukrainian Port Authority.

State stevedoring companies handled a total 863,000 tons at the Ukrainian Port Authority’s berths (-44.4% compared with the first half of last year). Thus, private companies accounted for almost 95% of the total volume of grain handled in seaports (15.357 million tons, +12.7%).

At the same time, private stevedores handled 9.125 million tons of grain in the Ukrainian Port Authority’s berths and 6.232 million tons in their own berths. Grain transshipment by private stevedoring companies increased by 36.8% in the Ukrainian Port Authority’s berths and reduced by 10.4% in their own berths.

As reported, according to data from the Ukrainian Port Authority, the total volume of cargo handling in all Ukrainian seaports reduced by 11.4% to 63.251 million tons in the first half of this year, compared with the corresponding period of last year.
