Romania has signed an agreement with the consortium of concessionaires Avant Airports and Avtomagistral-Pivden to build a new airport, possibly on the site of a decommissioned military airfield in the town of Alexeni, 66 kilometers from Bucharest.

The concept of the future airport will include a passenger terminal of 30,000 square meters, capable of handling 6.5 million passengers per year, and a cargo terminal of 20,000 square meters, capable of handling more than 10,000 tons of cargo per year.

The project will require an investment of EUR 400 million.

The first phase has now been completed, and a concession agreement has been signed with the local community. This allows the developer to start the process of attracting investments.
