Operators in Ukrainian seaports handled 32.6 million tons of cargo during the period of January-March 2021, which is 8.44 million tons or 20.5% less than they handled in the first quarter of 2020.

The Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

"Ukrainian seaports are gradually changing the negative dynamics," the message says.

Ukrainian seaports handled 9 million tons of ore and cargoes (a 12.1% reduction compared with the corresponding period of 2020) and 8.6 million tons of ore cargoes (36.9% reduction) during the period of January-March.

Oil transshipment increased by 21.1% to 619 thousand tons during this period.

Transshipment of export cargo totaled 25.3 million tons during the period of January-March 2021 (a 20.1% reduction compared with the corresponding period of 2020), import cargo totaled 4.9 million tons (19.9% reduction), transit cargo 2.1 million tons (25.1% reduction), and coastal cargo 233,800 tons (35.1% reduction).

In addition, Ukrainian seaports handled 253,170 TEU of containers during the period of January-March 2021, down 4.6% compared with the corresponding period of 2020.

As the CFTS portal reported, operators in Ukrainian seaports handled 20.583 million tons of cargo in January-February 2021, which is 6.538 million tons or 24.1% less than the volume they handled in the corresponding period of last year.
