According to the latest data, the cargo turnover of the port of Constanta, which is Romania's key port on the Black Sea, amounted to a record 92.5 million tons in 2023.

This was reported by the CFTS portal, citing information published by the Trans Info portal, which cited data from the port authority.

The figure for 2023 was 22.5% higher than the figure for 2022, when 75.5 million tons of cargo were handled. This figure is also the best in the history of the port of Constanta.

Cargo flows to the port by sea increased by 18% to 71 million tons, while cargo flows to the port by river increased by 40% to 22 million tons in 2023, compared with 2022.

As previously reported, the port handled over 36 million tons of grain cargo in 2023, up from 24 million tons in the previous year. Ukrainian grain accounted for over 14 million tons out of the 2023 volume.

In total, the Ukrainian cargoes that passed through the Romanian port in 2023 amounted to 25 million tons.

As reported, in addition to grain, there was an increase in the volume of transportation of the following commodity groups in Constanta last year: oilseeds, iron ore, scrap metal, petroleum products, and fertilizers.
