Five major companies are interested in concession projects in the Chornomorsk seaport.

Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov stated this at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2023) in London (Britain), the CFTS portal reports, citing the Interfax Ukraine news agency.

"We are working with IFC and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to prepare concession projects. One of the key ones is the project in the Chornomorsk seaport, and we are already seeing interest in them from five major companies," Kubrakov said, adding that these companies intend to participate in the respective tenders at the end of the year.

He also said that 80% of Ukraine's recovery projects have already been structured.

As the CFTS portal reported earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry for Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure is preparing the Chornomorsk seaport’s terminal No. 1, container terminal, and terminal No. 5 for concession tenders. The preparatory process began before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the ministry has resumed it. The first phase of the preparation process is the drafting of a feasibility study, and the second phase is the organization of concession tenders.

The Global Infrastructure Fund will finance the feasibility study. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) are hiring experts and consultants.

As the CFTS portal also reported, the Danish shipping company Moller-Maersk has expressed interest in the concession of a container terminal in the port of Chornomorsk.

"Representatives of the A.P. Moller-Maersk confirmed their significant interest in obtaining a concession to operate the container terminal, which, they believe, will ensure not only its sustainable development and modernization in accordance with the most modern international standards but also facilitate a significant expansion of the region’s trade and logistics infrastructure along with the creation of new jobs, as well as the creation of opportunities for storage of agricultural products and grain," the Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) said in May.
