The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) received letters from the Polish railway operators PKP Cargo and PKP LHS stating that a ban had been imposed on the transportation of several cargoes to them. This forced Ukrzaliznytsia to impose mirror restrictions from 17 April.

Ukrzaliznytsia stated this in comments to the CFTS portal, explaining its reason for imposing several restrictions on the transportation of freight by rail to Poland.

In particular, grain cargoes, sugar, dry fodder, seeds, hops, flax, vegetables, fruits, wines, beef, milk and dairy products, pork, eggs, chicken, beekeeping products, etc. will temporarily not be transported by rail to Poland.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia, 3,103 freight cars and 4 transit container trains transported grain, oil, cereals, etc. from Ukraine to Poland before the introduction of these restrictions. These shipments were approved for transportation and should be accepted by the Polish side.

"At the moment, Ukrzaliznytsia has not received official letters from other countries regarding the imposition of bans on the transportation of goods by rail to them. Similar restrictions will be imposed if such letters are received," Ukrzaliznytsia said.

As reported earlier, the government of Slovakia has decided to temporarily ban the importation of grain and other agricultural products from Ukraine. On 15 April, the Polish government imposed a ban on the importation of agricultural products from Ukraine until 30 June. On 16 April, Hungary imposed a temporary ban on the importation of agricultural products, including grain and oil crops, from Ukraine.

The European Commission has stated that the unilateral decisions by Poland and Hungary to ban the imports of agricultural products from Ukraine are unacceptable.
