The Odesa region plans to begin building a highway with a bridge across the Dniester Estuary next year, according to the "Program for Socio-Economic and Cultural Development of the Odesa Region for 2023 and the Main Areas of Development in 2024-2025," which the Odesa regional council approved at an extraordinary session on 4 August.

The CFTS portal reported this, citing the Yug.Today publication.

According to the document, the current state of the road surface and the capacity of the roads between the Danube estuary and the Dnipro estuary in the Black Sea region are becoming an important element of deterrence within the framework of the national security strategy.

"In this context, it is necessary to highlight the vulnerability of the transport logistics of moving the necessary forces to the area between the Danube and the Dniester. The strategic direction of resolving the issue of this territory’s transport link with the center of Odesa region is the construction of a bridge across the Dniester estuary," the document states.

In addition, the launch of the Orlivka - Isaccea ferry complex across the River Danube in the Izmail district and the growing number of vehicles using this ferry make it possible to argue that a bridge across the Dniester estuary is not only strategically important but also makes economic sense because it will shorten the road for the traffic flow to the south of Europe.

The bridge in Zatoka is currently not subject to repair after many missile attacks by the Russian army.
