The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) expects to transport 147 million tons of freight in 2023.

Ukrzaliznytsia announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

In particular, the company expects to transport 77 million tons of domestic freight this year. According to its operational plan, it expects to transport 63 million tons of export freight, 6 million tons of import freight, and 1 million tons of transit freight.

The company transported 151 million tons of freight in 2022, including 76 million tons of domestic freight, 59 million tons of export freight, 12 million tons of import freight, and 3 million tons of transit freight.

In 2021, Ukrzaliznytsia transported 314 million tons of freight, including 150 million tons of domestic freight, 112 million tons of export freight, 41 million tons of import freight, and 12 million tons of transit freight.

According to the latest data, in November 2023, the company transported 14 million tons of cargo, which is 33.8% more than it transported in the same period of 2022 and 4% more than it transported in October 2023. In January-November 2023, the company transported 134.7 million tons of freight, which is 4.1% less than it transported in the same period of last year. This figure is also half the figure in the same period of 2021, when the company transported 287 million tons of freight by rail.

Ukrzaliznytsia expects to make a net profit of UAH 7 billion in 2013, after a net loss of UAH 9.6 billion in 2022. According to the company’s head Yevhen Liaschenko, Ukrzaliznytsia’s revenue will amount to UAH 99.6 billion in 2013, including UAH 82.1 billion from freight transportation, UAH 8.4 billion from passenger transportation, and UAH 9.1 billion from other operations. According to the data he provided, Ukrzaliznytsia's revenues fell to UAH 75.7 billion in 2022 from UAH 86 billion in 2021 and UAH 90.4 billion in 2019.

Specifically, the company’s revenue from freight transportation decreased to UAH 63 billion last year from UAH 72.3 billion the previous year, its revenue from passenger transportation reduced to UAH 5.9 billion last year from UAH 6.2 billion the previous year, and its revenue from other operations reduced to UAH 6.8 billion last year from UAH 7.5 billion the previous year.

Ukrzaliznytsia's financial plan for 2024 envisages total revenues of UAH 103.2 billion.

In the summer of 2022, rail freight rates were raised by 70%. The rate of increase was the same for all types of cargo. At the time, Ukrzaliznytsia stated that the company would earn an additional UAH 11 billion as a result of this rate increase.
