Romania is preparing to reconstruct its rail network in Transylvania under EU financing, the Railway Pro agency reports.

The reconstruction of the Brasov - Sighisoara railway will begin on this November. The works consider the network modernization and the construction of additional tracks on single-track sections. The project will end up on December 2020.

The Brasov - Sighisoara railway is a part of the Rhine-Danube corridor. Therefore, the most of investments will be subsidized by European Union: EUR 678 m of EUR 797 m.

Romania also makes a feasibility study for reconstruction projects in other regions: Craiova - Calafat, Craiova - Drobeta-Turnu Severin - Caransebes.

In July, the European Commission approved the program of infrastructure modernization for Romania until 2020. According to the document, EUR 9.5 b will be invested by the EU for the implementation of infrastructure and energy projects in Romania.
