He began his career as a mechanic and rose to become the deputy general director for economics at the Black Sea shipyard. He was Ukraine’s deputy plenipotentiary in Russia from 1991 to 1992. He served in the administration of President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk and in the office of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from 1993 to 1995. He headed the group of advisors to the head of the National Bank of Ukraine from 1995 to 1999. He has been a consultant to large commercial companies since 2002. He is a member of the Council of Entrepreneurs under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the deputy head of the people’s council within the State Committee for Entrepreneurship, and the first vice president of the Association of Shipbuilders of Ukraine (Ukrsudprom).
