Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko and Robert Maersk Uggla, chair of the Board of Directors of the Maersk shipping and logistics company, have discussed potential investments in Ukraine's transport sector.
Svyrydenko met with Uggla during the World Economic Forum in Davos, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Ukrainian Economy Ministry.
Svyrydenko spoke about the progress of privatization in Ukraine and plans to relaunch public-private partnerships. "Ukraine is currently working on concession projects for some ports. These initiatives aim to modernize transport infrastructure and improve trade logistics," the Economy Ministry said.
As previously reported, last fall Maersk launched a weekly feeder service to the port of Chornomorsk from its hub in Port Said, Egypt.
As reported previously, the Danish shipping company Moller-Maersk was interested in the concession of a container terminal in the port of Chornomorsk. Representatives of the Danish shipping company even visited the port in 2023 for this purpose.
"Representatives of the company A.P. Moller-Maersk confirmed their significant interest in obtaining a concession to operate the container terminal, which they believe will not only ensure its sustainable development and modernization in accordance with the most modern international standards, but also facilitate a significant expansion of the region's trade and logistics infrastructure, along with the creation of new jobs, as well as the creation of opportunities for storage of agricultural products and grain," the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) said at that time.
