President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has appointed Ukraine's Ambassador to the United Kingdom Valerii Zaluzhnyi, a former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as the country's Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Zelenskyi signed the decree to this effect on 3 March 2025, the CFTS portal reports.
Zaluzhnyi will serve concurrently as Ukraine's representative to the IMO, an agency of the United Nations, and Ukraine's ambassador to the United Kingdom.
"Ukraine’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Valerii Fedorovych Zaluzhnyi is appointed as Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) concurrently," the decree reads.
The IMO's activities focus on eliminating discriminatory practices affecting international merchant shipping and adopting standards to ensure maritime safety and prevent environmental pollution from ships, particularly marine pollution.
