The volume of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Ukraine in the form of share capital amounted to USD 32.29 billion at the end of 2018, which is USD 0.69 billion or 2.2% more than the amount at the beginning of the year.

This is indicated in data from the State Statistics Service, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Interfax Ukraine news agency.

According to data from the State Statistics Service, the amount of FDI in 2018 exceeded the amount in 2017 (USD 0.38 billion). FDI fell by a total of USD 22.47 billion in the three years before 2017.

According to the State Statistics Service, non-residents increased their investments in Ukraine by USD 2.87 billion in 2018 while also repatriating USD 0.97 billion out of the country. Another USD 1.22 billion in foreign direct investment was written off due to changes in value and exchange-rate differences, losses, and reclassification.

These figures are better than the figures for 2017, when non-residents increased their investments in Ukraine by USD 2.51 billion and repatriated USD 0.76 billion out of the country.

According to the data that the State Statistics Service previously published, inflows of foreign direct investment into Ukraine were recorded in the first and fourth quarters last year (USD 1.15 billion and USD 0.32 billion, respectively) and outflows were recorded in the second and third quarters (USD 0.66 billion and USD 0.12 billion, respectively).

The State Statistics Service said that a third of all the foreign investments in in 2018 came from the Netherlands (USD 951.5 million), the Russian Federation (USD 495.6 million), and Cyprus (USD 477.6 million).

According to the State Statistics Service, Austrian non-residents contributed USD 203.7 million, French USD 110.9 million, British almost USD 98.7 million, and Polish USD 90.6 million.

Non-residents invested USD 1.215 billion (42.3% of the total FDI) in insurance and finance, USD 599.4 million in wholesaling and retailing, USD 405.3 million real estate, USD 302.1 million in industry, and USD 119.4 million in information and telecommunications in 2018.

The State Statistics Service substantially revised the figures for the foreign direct investment that was made in Ukraine in the form of share capital in 2018: from USD 39.14 billion as of December 31, 2017, to USD31.59 billion as of January 1, 2018.

As the CFTS reported earlier, Ukrainian steel plants significantly increased investment in production in 2018.
