The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) plans to establish a modern service center at one of its enterprises to service the 55 Alstom locomotives that will be delivered under a contract that was signed on 17 November.

Ukrzaliznytsia announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

Because of the terms of international financing and the tight delivery schedule, the locomotives will be manufactured in France. However, the agreement also creates long-term opportunities for domestic component manufacturers for decades to come.

"A preliminary agreement has been reached with Alstom regarding the potential involvement of Ukrainian manufacturers in supplying various components throughout the locomotives’ service cycle, including safety systems, communication equipment, brake pads, wheelsets, cabling, wiring products, cooling systems, and others," Ukrzaliznytsia said in a statement.

"With French support, we will establish a service depot, creating more than 50 jobs for Ukrainians. Local enterprises are mastering the production of components," said Volodymyr Shemaiev, director of Ukrzaliznytsia’s Office of International Projects.

To initiate cooperation, an expanded meeting of teams from Alstom, Ukrzaliznytsia, and a wide range of domestic manufacturers of railway products is planned for the first quarter of 2026.
