The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has introduced a state of emergency throughout Ukraine for a period of 30 days.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the plan to introduce a state of emergency, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Interfax Ukraine news agency.

"The Cabinet of Ministers will consider introducing a state of emergency throughout the country and bringing the Unified State Civil Protection System into a state of emergency mode," Shmyhal said at a government meeting on Wednesday.

According to him, the state of emergency and all the quarantine measures in the country will be in force for a period of 30 days.

Member of Parliament Oleksii Honcharenko announced in his Telegram channel that the Cabinet of Ministers had adopted a decision to this effect. "The Cabinet of Ministers has introduced a state of emergency throughout Ukraine for 30 days. Accordingly, the quarantine will be extended until April 24," he said.

As Prime Minister Shmyhal wrote on Facebook, the Cabinet of Ministers also decided to do the following:

- introduce mandatory sanitary examination of citizens at checkpoints in emergency zones and allow people to pass only after medical examination of people and disinfection of vehicles;

- deploy workers and technical equipment from the Ministry of Health, the National Police, the National Guard, the State Emergencies Service, and the State Consumer Protection Service at these checkpoints;

- order thorough disinfection of all premises, roads, and sidewalks;

- provide assistance to vulnerable sections of the population and involve employees of social services, public organizations, and volunteer organizations in provision of assistance.

Earlier, business associations expressed opposed to introduction of a state of emergency in Ukraine and closure of non-strategic enterprises in the country.
