The government has agreed to lower the rates of port charges for vessels carrying transit goods. The relevant Cabinet of Ministers directive (No. 1318-r) dated 2 December was published on the official government portal.

"Approve the Ministry of Infrastructure’s reduction of the rate of port charges by 50% for vessels carrying goods on transit, excluding administrative charges," the document states.

"Discounts on port charges are being granted for six months, and they are aimed at attracting additional transit cargo traffic, which will also facilitate development of rail and road transport. Accordingly, revenues into budgets at all levels will increase, a sustainable social climate will be created in thousands of transport-worker collectives," the Cabinet of Ministers website said.

Based on this experiment, a decision will be made on whether it is expedient to make the lower rates of port charges permanent.
