The government of Ukraine has named Deputy Prime Minister for Regional Development, Construction, Housing, and Utilities Volodymyr Groisman as the country’s acting Prime Minister. The relevant directive of the Cabinet of Ministers (No. 658 of July of 24) was published on the government website.

The decision was made "in connection with the resignation of Prime Minister Arsenii Yatseniuk," the document states.

As reported, Yatseniuk announced his resignation from the rostrum in the parliament on Thursday evening. He attributed his decision to the collapse of the coalition and the blocking of government initiatives by parliamentary deputies. Following the collapse of the coalition, the President of Ukraine can dissolve the parliament and order early parliamentary elections if a new coalition is not formed within 30 days.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine is relieved of his post on the date of adoption of a decision on his dismissal at a plenary session of the parliament. Adoption of a parliamentary decision on removal of the prime minister forces the resignation of the entire Cabinet of Ministers.
