According to the Baltic Exchange (London), the dry-cargo shipping market ended the year on a positive note by rising significantly in December 2013. The average monthly BDI rose by 642 points or 41% to 2,200 points.

The average monthly BDI in December 2013 was the highest in the period of 2012-2013. The most active sector of the market in December 2013 was Capesize, which added 1411 points (57%) while the Panamax and Supramax sectors grew by an average of 27% and 11%, respectively.
