An explosion occurred on the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod gas pipeline in the Lokhvytsky district of the Poltava region on Tuesday, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports, citing the press service of the Poltava Regional Police Department.
"Information about the explosion was received at about 14:20. Fortunately, there were no casualties. Firefighting work is still going on," the press service said.
According to police, the explosion occurred on a section of the pipeline in a field located about 1 kilometer from the nearest settlement. "According to witnesses, the flame rose to a height of about 200 meters," the press service said.
The press office of Ukraine’s gas pipeline operator, Ukrtransgaz, did not yet have information about the incident.
