The main topic of discussion was the war in Ukraine and the possibility of developing science and Antarctic research in such conditions.

Famous American actor, producer, and director Liev Schreiber, one of the ambassadors of Ukraine's United24 fundraising platform, has visited the Noosfera icebreaker, the flagship of Ukraine's polar research fleet.

The National Antarctic Scientific Center announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

According to the statement, Schreiber, who is currently on an Antarctic cruise, saw the Noosfera near King George Island while it was sailing from the Vernadsky Research Base (the Ukrainian Antarctic station) to Chile. The actor contacted the crew of the Noosfera through the United24 fundraising platform to ask if it would be possible to visit the icebreaker and talk to the crew.

"The main topic of the brief discussion was the full-scale war in Ukraine and the country's ability to develop science and Antarctic research even under such conditions," the National Antarctic Scientific Center said in the statement.

Schreiber launched the BlueCheck Ukraine aid network after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion and became the United24 ambassador for medical assistance in July 2022. In the fall of 2022, Schreiber initiated a fundraising campaign to purchase generators for Ukrainian hospitals. The first USD 100,000 was raised within hours. Subsequently, other United24 ambassadors joined the fundraising effort. Together, they raised USD 3,000,000 for the project.
