Infrastructure Minister Andrii Pyvovarskyi has announced the creation of a freight company within the State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia) and said that an expert from Germany has been hired for its creation.
"Our cooperation with the German Ministry of Transport continues. We are largely looking up to our European colleagues and their experience. From today, our team will be joined by a man who has worked on projects for development of railways and subways around the world: from high-speed rail in the Netherlands and Beijing to a subway in Puerto Rico. I am speaking of German expert Stefan Hofsaess, who has become my adviser," Pyvovarskyi wrote on his Facebook page.
According to Pyvovarskyi, in addition to engineering education Hofsaess has 25 years of experience in the railway sector, of which 15 are in leadership positions.
"I am very pleased that a professional like Stefan will join the working group on reform of Ukrzaliznytsia. One of the issues on which he will work will be creation of a freight company within Ukrzaliznytsia open joint-stock company. I am convinced that the involvement of foreign experts will help us to implement reforms quickly and more efficiently. There is no need to reinvent the wheel because we can learn from others' mistakes and achievements," Pyvovarskyi concluded.
Information from social networks indicates that Hofsaess graduated from the Technical University of Berlin in 1991, worked for Siemens from 2005 to 2008, and then worked for Tewet from 2008 to 2015.
