Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) has announced that the company, the Holovanivsk district military administration, and the Haivoron city council have jointly applied to the Ukrainian National Register of Records for recognition of the Haivoron railway as the longest operating narrow-gauge railway in Europe, the CFTS portal reports.

The railway, preserved in the Podillia district, is the longest narrow-gauge (750 mm) railway in Europe. Its total length is 130 km.

Currently, the 87-km-long Rudnytsia - Haivoron - Khashchuvate section of the railway is in operation.

"During the recent 21st retro tour to Haivoron, on-site experts confirmed that 'the Haivoron railway is the longest operating narrow-gauge railway in Ukraine' and presented the corresponding certificate," Ukrzaliznytsia said.
