The Administration of Seaports of Ukraine’s financial plan for 2015 provides for dredging operations at a number of ports, including the Mariupol port. Minister of Infrastructure Andrii Pyvovarskyi announced this during a working visit to Mariupol, the press service of the Mariupol port announced.
According to the minister, the dredging work will be financed by the Administration of Seaports of Ukraine, the financial plan of which will soon be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers for consideration. "We will try to ensure that the work is performed this year," said Pyvovarskyi.
The minister also said that the dredging work was a matter of priority. "When we started this work, we found that many ports do not even have design specifications for dredging. Mariupol has such a design specification," said Pyvovarskyi.
Dredging will increase the depths of the approach channel, the port waters, and mooring berths in accordance with the declared specifications. This will significantly increase shipping safety and allow vessels with great drafts to be loaded at ports.
