The Ministry of Infrastructure intends to regain control of the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (JSC Ukrzaliznytsia) in the near future.

This was announced by Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Kryklyi, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Interfax Ukraine news agency.

“I have already raised this issue before the prime minister. I think we will begin in the near future,” he said.

According to the minister, the necessary amendments to the relevant provisions on Ukrzaliznytsia are currently being prepared, and control of Ukrzaliznytsia could be transferred to the Ministry of Infrastructure “in the near future.”

"If the Ministry of Infrastructure is responsible for transport strategy and infrastructure, it is logical for [control of] the railway, which is an integral part of this entire living organism, to return [to the Ministry of Infrastructure]," Kryklyi said.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution transferring control of Ukrzaliznytsia from the Ministry of Infrastructure to the government in early 2017.
