Interpipe, a Ukrainian producer of steel pipes and railway products, has delivered new wheelsets for car carrier wagons to France.
The company announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
The new ULT 70 wheelsets, a proprietary Interpipe design, have been delivered to a customer in France and are already in successful operation on vehicle carrier trains.
"Car carrier trains require a special type of wheelset. In particular, the wheel diameter had to be reduced by 200 mm to compensate for the increased height of the railcars, since such railcars can hold at least two automobiles stacked on top of each other. At the same time, the axle of the wheelset needed to be able to withstand the standard load of 18 tons," said Frédéric Simonneau, Interpipe's railway products sales manager for the European market. "After extensive research, our team developed an alternative to the standard design previously used by the customer."
European railcar manufacturers and leasing companies widely recognize Interpipe’s Ultimate line of wheels and wheelsets as best-in-class in terms of operational performance.
The new ULT 70 wheelset incorporates this line's key features: a high-strength wheel design and improved braking efficiency.
