Deputy Minister of Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Timur Tkachenko has said that the Ukrainian Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure continues to work on concession projects in ports together with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the CFTS portal reports.
"We continue to cooperate actively with international partners to implement key projects aimed at attracting investment in Ukraine's transport infrastructure," he said.
According to him, he held a meeting with representatives of the International Finance Corporation.
"The priority issues discussed at the meeting include the promotion of investment activities in Ukrainian ports, fleet modernization, and attracting private capital to finance the restoration and development of infrastructure," the official said.
According to him, within the framework of this cooperation, the schedules for implementing concession projects are being updated to help determine the optimal timeframe for the announcement of concession tenders. Preparations are also underway to restart projects at the ports of Olvia and Kherson.
"In the future, we plan to expand our partnership with the IFC and other international organizations, especially in the development of infrastructure projects in the transport sector," he said.
As reported earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure continues to prepare the assets of the Chornomorsk seaport for concession.
As previously reported, it was announced that concession tenders would be announced in 2024. Work on concession projects for the assets of the Chornomorsk Commercial Seaport resumed in April 2023. These are projects and separate tenders for the port’s Terminal No. 1, the Container Terminal, and the Ferry Terminal.
In general, the process of preparing for the implementation of concession projects at the Chornomorsk seaport began even before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The announcement of the concession tenders was planned for 2022, but it did not take place because of the war. The relevant ministry resumed the process in the spring of 2023. The first phase of the preparation process is the preparation of a feasibility study, and the second phase is the organization of concession tenders. At that time, the ministry announced the preparation of tenders for the concession of the Chornomorsk seaport’s Terminal No. 1, Container Terminal, and Terminal No. 5.
The Global Infrastructure Facility is financing the feasibility study, with experts and consultants provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Finance Corporation.
