Romania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu has said that an agreement with Ukraine on the creation of new checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Romanian border will be signed soon.

The CFTS portal reported this, citing the Logist.Today publication.

The minister stated at a government meeting that all the approvals for the issue of creating new checkpoints on the border with Ukraine would be presented at one of the upcoming government meetings.

After that, the Romanian Cabinet of Ministers will be able to confirm the relevant document in order to sign agreements with Kyiv subsequently.

"We already have all the approvals for the memorandum, which proposes concluding an agreement through the exchange of notes with Ukraine in order with the goal of amending the 2012 agreements on the establishment of the Racovat – Diakivtsi, Vicovu de Sus – Krasnoilsk, and Ulm – Ruska border crossing points. Therefore, we will be able to confirm this memorandum at the next government meeting, which means that the conclusion of an agreement will be possible in the near future," said Aurescu.

The official added that the new agreement would essentially amend the previous agreements concluded in 2012 and that it would allow an increase in the throughput capacities of the abovementioned border checkpoints.

"We are trying to ensure higher transit volumes at the checkpoints on the border with Ukraine," he said.
