RegioJet, a private railway operator based in the Czech Republic, has carried almost 80,000 passengers on the Prague-Chop-Prague route, which was created in cooperation with the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia), since trains began operating on the route on 28 March 2024.
RegioJet announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
Seat occupancy on the route has reached 90%.
This service was launched primarily to meet the needs of Ukrainian citizens traveling to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and other EU countries.
Currently, a night train is operated daily on the Prague-Chop route, connecting the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Ukraine. The train departs from Prague in the evening and arrives in Chop - a transport hub on the border between Slovakia and Ukraine - in the morning. From Chop, passengers can continue their journey on Ukrzaliznytsia trains to cities in the Zakarpattia region and other cities in Ukraine.
"Thanks to sleeping cars, this service provides a higher level of comfort compared to buses and passenger cars," said RegioJet's Managing Director Jakub Svoboda.
To facilitate the operation of train operations on the Prague-Chop route, Ukrzaliznytsia has repaired the railway tracks at the Chop station. RegioJet purchased the sleepers necessary for the repairs and donated them to Ukrzaliznytsia.
