1068 The Russian occupiers have opened a full-fledged rail link from Rostov-on-Don to Mariupol, Volnovakha, and Donetsk. Petro Andriuschenko, an aide to the mayor of Mariupol, announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

"This is bad news. Fuel for the front from Russia and the port of Mariupol now travels by rail. It is faster and safer than by road," he said.

As the CFTS portal reported previously, in August 2024, the Russian occupiers launched a newly completed railroad from the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don to Mariupol via Hranitne/Malovodne. As Andriuschenko said at the time, it took the Russians 13 months to rebuild the railroad. Construction was delayed by two months because of winter attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces and an additional month because of sabotage by Mariupol resistance forces at the Kalchytsia quarry.
