A freight train with unknown cargo has entered the port of the temporarily occupied Mariupol.
Petro Andriuschenko, an aide to the mayor of Mariupol, announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
"For the first time, a full freight train has entered the port of Mariupol. The cargo is not known. All the wagons are covered. According to the markings on them, they are Russian Railways wagons," he said.
According to Andriuschenko, the question is what kind of ship will enter the port to pick up the cargo.
"Such a rail link indicates the establishment of a military base without the port functioning as a standard infrastructure facility," he said.
The port has handled almost 180,000 tons of cargo since the beginning of 2024.
As reported previously, the occupation authorities dispatched a ship carrying 7,700 tons of cargo from the Port of Mariupol a week earlier.
Ukrainian grain is shipped to Russian ports or the occupied Crimea, from where the Russians export it to foreign markets under the guise of their own agricultural products.
