Ryanair, an Irish low-cost airline, will create a post of technical director in Ukraine.
This decision by the low-cost airline is related to the prospect of creating a large IT hub in the country, which could become the fourth largest in Europe. This was announced during a meeting between the airline company's Chief Financial Officer David O'Brien and President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelian, the CFTS portal reports.
“The company is creating the position of technical director in Ukraine. This decision is motivated by the prospect of creating an IT hub in Ukraine, which could become the fourth largest in Europe after Madrid, Wroclaw, and Dublin,” Ukraine’s Ministry of Infrastructure said in a statement.
As the CFTS portal previously reported, Ryanair could establish a company in Ukraine for creation of IT products. “One of the ideas that we discussed with the management of Ryanair is establishment of a company in Ukraine for developing all the low-cost airline’s IT products,” the National Investment Council Office’s Chairperson Yulia Kovaliv said in September.
O'Brien also announced during Tuesday’s meeting that the airline plans to increase the number of aircraft it uses for operating Ukrainian flights to 15 over the next 3-5 years and establish a base in Ukraine.
