Financier George Soros is ready to invest USD 1 billion in Ukraine if Western countries countries help private investment in the country, the Ukrainska Pravda publication reported, citing Reuters.

"I stand ready. There are concrete investment ideas, for example in agriculture and infrastructure projects. I would put in USD 1 billion. This must generate a profit. My foundation would benefit from this... Private engagement needs strong political leadership," said Soros.

According to him, the West can help Ukraine by increasing its attractiveness for investors and a political-risk insurance is necessary. "This could take the form of mezzanine financing at EU interest rates - very close to zero," said the financier.

Soros recently urged the West to increase financial assistance to Ukraine, which, in his opinion, should be considered as support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.
